Parenting

family therapy for parents and parenting

Rewarding. Messy. Impossible. Spectacular.

These are just a few of the ways parenthood can be described.

If you are in a season of parenting where you find yourself unsure what to do next, know that there are many others walking this path alongside you and you do not have to do this alone. Whether you are just considering starting your parenting journey, working through the school years, or your children have moved out and started a life of their own, there are highs and lows for each season of parenthood and sometimes we need a dedicated space to work through the tough spots.

I came into this field with a passion to work with parents and families and have been fortunate enough to do so every day. Sometimes it’s meeting with one parent who is working through their own challenges, sometimes it’s a parent and their child who need a little support with a tough situation, or sometimes it is parents who no longer live together, but are trying to be better coparents for their kids. No matter how you show up or what your parenting style is, know you will be welcome here. Parenthood is a highly diverse experience and no two people go about it the exact same way. There is no handbook, but we do have research about attachment, child development, relationships, and mental health to help guide us along the way.

Some of the areas I most commonly work with parents on are:

  • The transition to parenthood

  • Conflicting parenting styles within the home

  • Communication, boundaries, and trust with children and teens

  • Complexities such as co-parenting following separation or divorce

  • Reunification therapy when children are resisting or refusing to see a parent

  • Repairing relationships between parents and adult children

  • Parenting children who are experiencing their own mental health concerns

Parenting is a hard, sometimes thankless job. But it is also rewarding and oh so worth it. If you’re in a particularly tough season, know that this is a space where you can be vulnerable, have your voice heard, and get some ideas for how to get through it.
